fire and flowers

Brooke and I have really enjoyed the process of making art together. In the series we just started, we've already made 25 pieces and we are planning another show within the next few weeks. With that in mind, we decided to tweek fireandflowers.com, which was where Brooke was holding her creative stuff. We're now using Fire + Flowers as a label for our work together, as well as hers alone. Our housemate, Greg took some pics of us yesterday that I think are awesome. Mostly because of Brooke (I never like the way I look in pics). She looks stunning! We've also got an etsy page up now for easy purchasing of our work.

snake babies communique

Hey Friends,
Just got a call from the singer of Snake Babies, the infamous author, speaker and vocalist Matt Casper. While Andy (bass) and I (drums) drove the van back from our world tour, Casper decided to fly back to San Diego (singers can do that kind of thing). But, alas, he's now held up in the Denver airport, having been held by security for some curious items in his luggage that our attorney says cannot be discussed at this time. Therefore, Casper won't make it home in time for our show this evening. We sincerely apologize to all of those holding tickets purchased for tonight's show through TicketMaster... especially since tonight's show was free.

So, we'd still love for you to come hang out with Eclipse 79 and Adams & Eves but unfortunately, these serpentine infants will NOT be playing (wah, wah, wah, waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh).

BUT, I will be there to enjoy the other fabulous bands and to throw back a few, so join us! AND Snake Babies WILL be playing on July 2 at Ken Club (see flyer) which is not to be missed... by you or the members of Snake Babies.

Cheers,

Jason

art

The show yesterday went okay. We sold 4 pieces and had one order, altogether. I uploaded everything we've finished so far and made a set for our work on Flickr. Here's a preview:

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

The kids spent the night with their grandparents last night, so Brooke and I took the opportunity to work on some art pieces together. I'm not a good photographer but you can see a few of the pieces we worked on at my Flickr page. If you're local, we'll have about ten pieces available at the South Park Old House Fair next weekend.

couldn't get much better: clarifying comments

Last week I posted a bit of an all-around update on my life. In that post, I mentioned that our community life couldn't much better. My housemate Brooke (not my wife, the other Brooke... yes, there's two of 'em... and two Matt's) took issue with this. Her husband, Matt, and she are living abroad this summer. She couldn't believe that our community life could be so great while she is gone. It is true. We miss them. They didn't know this, because I hate saying goodbye and try to keep goodbye's as short as possible, but I got kind of choked up after I hugged them and said "Bye" (which is saying a lot 'cause I don't cry very easily). This summer, we have a few extra housemates, Lars, Bethany and Mike are extended Hawthorn House family and are staying here for a couple months. Looking at the broader picture in the above stated post, I was very appreciative of all the people that I consider my community. I was not thinking in the short term but thinking about the long term and was very grateful for what I am blessed with. In fact, I probably had images in my head of sipping wine, looking at beautiful photography from Latin America and listening to stories on a warm Fall afternoon at the picnic table with Matt, Brooke, Brooke and others while my kids dance around the back yard... but Brooke didn't get that impression... So, really this post is simply written to say this:

I hope you blushed, Brooke. And we ALL miss you terribly, can't wait for your return and hope you have a beautiful time!

updates...

On job hunting:
No word on the job(s) yet. Hopefully later today (Wed)

On being online:
I haven't made up my mind completely but I did decide to cut out some of my "mental pollution" by unsubscribing from some email lists, cutting back on how many sites I follow in Google Reader (wanted to get back to that excitement I used to feel about seeing new posts on Wooster Collective or catholicanarchy.org for example), unfollowing some people on Twitter (sorry if it was you) and generally avoiding direct interaction w/ Facebook (sorry, Rick). FB and Tumblr are on autopilot now.

On family:
Couldn't get much better.

On community:
Couldn't get much better.

On music:
We rock live on the 21st.

On home repairs:
The house that seemed to always be under repair... I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I still have two bathroom remodels and a kitchen remodel to do but that's nothing... if you only knew. This damn thing will be done by year end I am hoping.

On misc.:
Making art and journaling is good for the soul. Hope I don't lose that with a new job.

Gotta be up at 5a. Need some sleepy time now.

soft focus

As you can see from my other post, I've really been getting into Soft Focus with Ian Svenonius. Ian was in the D.C. band Make-Up–who, along with James Brown, greatly inspired the stage antics of Matt Casper's former band, Hell Yeah (I played for them for awhile). His newest musical project is Weird War. Weird War has performed on the most awesome kid's show, Pancake Mountain and Brendan Canty's documentary series, Burn to Shine. Ian has interviewed a ton of great punk artists on his show. And Svenonius is hilarious! Check it out! Here's another one with Mike Watt. I love how down to earth Watt is.
