a personal update...

So much has been going on, I don't really no where to start. But here's a few bits...
  • My son turned 5 on Monday! Yeah!
  • Matt Casper and I have started playing music together again!
  • I am not taking classes at Fuller this semester. Bummer but can't afford it.
  • I've applied for a bunch of jobs since I am clearly a terrible fund raiser and I think I may have landed a new job. Miracle!
  • Brooke has also probably landed a new job. Yes, we're both potentially going back to "real" jobs.
  • Our gathering on Sunday was beautiful. I am truly amazed at the leadership and ability springing up around us!
  • A bunch of us met with Alan Roxburgh tonight, scheming up some 'underground seminary/peoples' school'-ish ideas. Cool!
  • The EC site has been down. Sorry for that. We're working on things.

thoughts on gaza...

Some say the definition of “crazy” is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. By this definition, Israel and Palestine are certifiably nuts! It does seem clear that Israel has the economic and military superiority in the situation... and they have brazenly exposed their ability to make the population suffer for the acts of others.

But it's easy to sit at my desk in California and criticize this tit-for-tat behavior. I know I can't completely appreciate the situation from here. What does seem clear though is that violence continues to fail to bring resolution... when will we learn. My prayer for Palestine and Israel is one of solidarity and request for strength and wisdom for those, such as the Shministim, who have made and will make nonviolent statements. Statements that I pray will give both peoples a new way of looking at their situation.

... you're still a rat

sweet, potatoes!

Almost 9 months ago, we planted sweet potatoes in our garden. Nothing seemed to be growing. So, after we got back from our trip in September I pulled them out. But the vine-like leaves that come up from a sweet potato came back. Andy, Matt, Greg and I were working in the garden today–weeding, training and pruning the grape vines, raspberry and boysenberry canes–and I pulled up two sweet potatoes! Not the biggest, but I'm still excited to see that they are actually producing more than just the vines. We also planted organic mesclun, lettuce, beets, basil, chives, potatoes, oregano, and we transplanted volunteer tomato plants. All of us were pretty stoked to get so much done in the garden today and can't wait to see stuff grow... and it looks like rain tonight!

Good way to start the year off!
